Packing Tips: Cushioning and Sealing Your Boxes

We often emphasize the importance of choosing the right box when shipping your items. But did you know that the proper cushioning and sealing of your box is just as important? Here are some useful packing tips:

1.Tape the opening of your box and reinforce all seams with a 2-inch wide tape. Use clear or brown packaging tape, reinforced packing tape or paper tape. String or twine are not recommended because they may get caught when shipping.

2. Distribute the tape evenly across flaps and seams, using the H taping method.

3. Put at least 3 inches of cushioning, such as loose fill peanuts, foam pads or crumpled paper on all sides of the container to fill spaces and prevent your products inside the box to move during shipping. If your item shakes or shifts when you move the box, then you need to add more.

4. Place goods that might be damaged by dirt or water inside a plastic bag.

5. Position bottles that contain liquids upright. Make sure it has an inner seal and perforated breakaway cap.

6. For rolled goods like fabric and wallpaper, place them in reinforced plastic or heavy brown paper before placing it in an exterior container.

7. Use plenty of tape. It s better to have your box overly secure than have it rip while in transit.
